Manila City, Philippines, May 16, 2024
The Philippine Marketing Association (PMA) recently enjoyed an exclusive Manila Heritage Tour organized by the Department of Tourism (DOT) to offer our marketers a unique cultural experience in Manila City. This special tour utilized the DOT’s Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) Bus which provided an immersive and educational journey through the city’s rich history and vibrant culture.
“I’ve come to love what we have in the Philippines and it includes its history. We need to put the history in our hearts. The fulfillment is for people to know what we have in the country. For people to know of such places for every Filipino. (Ang mahalaga) For people to know where we came from, the culture that we have inherited. “
-Grace Vergara, Accredited Tour Guide, Department of Tourism
The tour began in Newport Resorts World, Holiday Inn, where past presidents, board of directors, and active members of the PMA gathered to embark on the HOHO bus. The excitement was palpable as participants anticipated the day’s events.
The rolling tour commenced with a panoramic view of Manila’s bustling streets, showcasing a unique blend of modernity and historical charm. The first stop was Luneta Park, also known as Rizal Park. This historic site, where Dr. José Rizal, the national hero, was executed, played a pivotal role in sparking the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule. The park is a place of deep reflection and patriotism, and our expert guides provided insightful commentary on its rich historical significance.
Following Luneta, the tour proceeded to Malacañang-Bahay Ugnayan and Teus Mansion. Malacañang Palace, the official residence and workplace of the President of the Philippines, offered the PMA an opportunity to explore Bahay Ugnayan. This museum within the palace complex showcases the history and heritage of the Philippine presidency. The tour then moved to Teus Mansion, an elegant historical house reflecting Manila’s colonial past, adding another layer to our understanding of the city’s rich history.
A sumptuous lunch was hosted at Winford Hotel’s Red Dynasty Restaurant, where the group savored delectable Chinese dishes specially prepared for the occasion. This delightful meal provided a perfect mid-day break and a chance for participants to discuss the morning’s experiences.
The tour continued with a visit to Intramuros, Manila’s famed walled city. Here, the group visited the Manila Cathedral, an architectural masterpiece and a symbol of faith and resilience. The tour also included a rolling tour overlooking Fort Santiago, a historic citadel that has witnessed significant events in Philippine history.
In support of the DOT’s initiatives, the PMA is committed to promoting the “Love the Philippines” campaign, aiming to enhance appreciation for our culture, heritage, and history. This tour was not only an educational experience but also a testament to the PMA’s dedication to fostering a deeper understanding and love for our nation’s rich cultural tapestry.
The PMA extends its heartfelt thanks to the Department of Tourism for organizing this enriching tour and to all participants who made this event memorable. We look forward to more such collaborations that celebrate and promote the beauty and history of the Philippines.
